Council’s 2025-26 budget was handed down on 7 July, allocating $262.3 million to the capital works program which funds infrastructure projects in the region. A range of projects, services and programs were also committed to help sustain our healthy environment, economy and community.

The budget presents great opportunities for local businesses to supply Council through different supplier avenues. In the 2024-25 financial year, 75.9% of Council procurement was spent with local businesses. Prioritising local businesses in Council’s supply chain ensures that budget spend remains in the region and supports local communities.

Businesses such as Sunshine Coast based Infrex, were awarded a first-time Council contract. The recently established construction company built on past unsuccessful tenders to secure a contract on the Black Spot Safety Upgrade project.

Founder and Director Marcelo Julio explains the journey to becoming a trusted Council supplier.

“It was important that I gained an indepth understanding of Council’s procurement policy and criteria. It helped guide the development of my systems, procedures and guidelines, but it also underlined other focus areas such as sustainability and social impact which is important to Council. This helped strengthen my winning application.

“We’ve been working with Council’s civil team since being awarded the contract in March this year. It’s great working with an experienced team that oversees the project’s smooth delivery, and they cater for smaller suppliers through great payment terms.”

Sunshine Coast based digital platform, Coach Welly, successfully secured a Council contract to deliver an internal program incentivising health and wellness for Council staff.

Coach Welly Co-Founder and CEO Owen Bowling speaks of launching with their home-based Council.

“We’re excited to have launched in our home region of the Sunshine Coast. The platform not only incentivises a healthy lifestyle for Council staff, but it also spotlights local businesses that can help.

“We recently utilised the platform to incentivise staff engagement with local businesses for Buy Local Day. That campaign gained the highest number of views compared to any other page.”

Businesses can find out what supplier opportunities are coming up this financial year at the 2025 Sunshine Coast Council Supplier Briefing on 13 August.
